InteractiveVisualization

If you have an interest in natural resources, it probably isn’t because you like staring at data tables. In our industry, we are all visual people. Forest visualization allows us to move from raw numbers and incomprehensible figures to something anyone can understand. When we visualize our data, we can interpret more data at once, we can interpret it faster, we can see trends more easily, and we can communicate with a larger audience. So, immerse yourself in forest data and see the forest for the trees.

Stand Designer:Unparalleled Detail

With a company history spanning more than 30 years in California forestry, we know what real looks like. As a result, we’ve created a platform that allows for unparalleled attention to detail from the ground-level perspective. Populate a four acre terrain with trees, then fine tune the details of the layout, fill in the understory, and add special objects for scale, function, and aesthetics. Use details such as rare plants, woody debris, wildlife, or buildings to support specialized talking points, create compelling visuals, or round out your forest with eye-catching aesthetics.

Better research, Better Decisions

Stand Designer allows you to design and cultivate your forest with unprecedented levels of detail. Choose from one of our generic understory templates or quickly fill in an accurate understory with unmatched precision. When you can digitally visualize the land—every shrub, rock, snag, or building—you’re better equipped to make informed decisions.

Model

A Visual Forester stand model is the next best thing to a walk in the woods. Our in-house library includes hundreds of 3D models covering 18 tree species and 25+ understory species which represent forestland across the Western US.

Import

Bring your spreadsheets to life with a few simple clicks. Just open Stand Designer, select a terrain, and import your table data. Our platform will populate your trees across the landscape, allowing you to take a walk without ever leaving your desk.

Quantify

Whether you import your stand tables or build a stand from scratch, Stand Designer will estimate tree volume and biomass using equations approved by the California Air Resources Board. You can easily view your stand’s biometric data in graphs and tables or get any individual tree’s biometrics.

Simulate

Our most recent feature is the incorporation of fire. You can watch a fire spread over the landscape in real-time, engulfing trees and turning them into blackened snags.

Stand Designer screen capture

Capture

Elevate any presentation with stunning, detailed visuals. Stand Designer includes tools to capture still images and videos at resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. Built-in tools also allow you to create elaborate video fly-throughs and utilize offline rendering techniques which guarantee a smooth frame-rate on exported videos, even if they were recorded on a slow PC.

The Time for Forest Visualization is Now

As long-time pioneers in the world of forest data, our goal has always been simple: to make tools easier and to make information more accessible. In the beginning, our company built user friendly GIS, inventory management, and long-term planning software for field foresters with limited computer experience. Now, we want to make forest data accessible to anyone and everyone.

With major topics like carbon planning, wildfire risk management, and wildlife habitat conservation, it is more important than ever that we effectively communicate forest data and decision making to students, collaborators, and stakeholders with diverse specialties and backgrounds. Stand Designer offers simple, versatile tools for natural resources professionals, students, educators, landowners, regulators, and community members to share and understand forest conditions through immersive visualization.

With Stand Designer, we bring the forest to you.
