2.5.1 Table Import Introduction

The table import utility allows tree data to be imported in three different formats:

Stand table import: a table where diameter class is organized in rows, species is organized in columns, and values at the intersections describe trees per acre/hectare.

Tree list import: a table where each row represents a record for a cruised/modeled tree, expanded to describe a given number of trees per acre/hectare.

Stem map import: a table where each row represents an individual tree with x, y position.

File Format

As a general rule, all tables should represent a single stand and a single reporting year (though you could get creative with the structures system). All tables should be saved with the file format comma separated values (.csv). For additional details, follow the links above.

Units

All import methods will also need to specify the species of 3D model that you want to visualize. Often, this will be different from the original species name recorded in the field. For example, a tree may have been recorded in the field as "noble fir", but we don't have a set of models for that specific species. Instead, you would pick the VF species with the closest visual resemblence, white fir (WF) in order to build your visualization. As an optional field, you could input "noble fir" as the display name and this name would show up when you click on the tree in the scene. Use the resources below to find the best VF species code.
