3.8.3 Recording a Video

Before You Start

The video recording tool built into Stand Designer is designed to export high quality "cinematic style" video where the camera travels down a smooth, pre-planned camera track. If you want to record a video where you are freely exploring the scene and showing inventory numbers (perhaps while narrating in real time), you should consider using a screen recording tool instead. There are easy-to-use screen recording tools built into both PowerPoint and Zoom, or you can download a purpose-built tool like FastStone Capture or OBS Studio. For smoother, more polished results than screen recording, proceed through the instructions below.

Cinematic Video Recording

At its basics, recording a video follows this process:

  1. Click Start Path
  2. Left click the terrain to draw a camera path
  3. Click Finish Path
  4. [Optional] Create and assign look targets (see next page)
  5. [Optional] Use shift+left click to select a path point or look target and move it around (see 3.6 Object Edit Tool)
  6. [Optional] Click the “Expand” arrow to view and adjust the recording settings (see 3.8.5 Recording Settings)
  7. Click Start/Stop to send the camera down the path
  8. Click Record to start the recording

When the camera reaches the end of the track, or you click Stop Recording, the resultant video will be saved to Documents/Stand Designer/Captures.
